Abstract

The following paper seeks to examine role played by renewable energy in the economic development process. This paper explores the role played by renewable energy technologies in employment generation, economic development and security of supply as well as the issues concerning any first costs involved and systemic integration of renewable energy systems. The dynamics of renewables and the role of renewable energy in the process of sustainable development are discussed based on the analysis in the recent literature, case and economic studies and the overall benefits and key recommendations for policy are presented.
