This article explores shift s in meaning of terms, which take place in a translation process. The analysis of shift s was made on the basis of various newspaper texts and their translations. In the first part of the article we take a close look at some scientifiс conceptions and approaches to the problem of translation quality assessment of both Russian and foreign scientists.
