Abstract

This article aims to figure out cognitive metaphor and its interpretation in the literary text. Cognitive or conceptual metaphor is considered to be a new insight in Cognitive Linguistics. Cognitive Metaphor Theory was first introduced into linguistics by G. Lakoff and M. Johnson in their book “Metaphors We Live By” (1980). It refers that metaphor is not a simply stylistic device, but it is a fundamental scheme that people perceive the world and their own activities. The paper outlines how cognitive metaphor can be used in literary text and the issues that are related to its analysis.
